Windows Mac? Omnipage is in the $100 range and works exceptionally well for the price.

I'm sure there are a few good linux OCR packages about. All you'd neet to do is get the scanner.

ABBY Reader will be what i would highly go for. Ommi page is okay, but can be useless at time.

My dad up had a package that came with his flatbed scanner back in the 90s that he still uses. It's pretty accessible.
